Edge Landscapes and Sustainable Cities
On October 28, 2026, Hong Kong hosted the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World and Asia‑Pacific Congress for the first time. The three‑day event, themed “Edge Landscapes: Changing Watersheds and Coastlines,” brought together over 1,000 professionals from more than 80 countries to discuss climate resilience and sustainable urban design.
At the opening ceremony, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Development highlighted local achievements in waterfront enhancement, including the Victoria Harbour promenade extension, Tsui Ping River revitalization, and Tung Chung eco‑shoreline project. These initiatives demonstrate how innovative landscape design can strengthen biodiversity and improve urban livability.
International speakers emphasized nature‑based solutions and the critical role of landscape architects in global climate adaptation strategies. The congress served not only as a professional exchange platform but also as a showcase of Hong Kong’s forward‑looking vision as a coastal city in Asia.
